The Lanarkshire-based firm, which currently supplies labels to industries including bakery and engineering, wants to break into other sectors such as high quality, versioned labels for whisky products along with pharmaceuticals, and health and beauty.
The company’s new seven-colour press is being run alongside DE Product Labels’ existing three flexo presses, which include a Focus FT250, a Focus Proflex, and a Mark Andy 2200.
DE Product Labels has six staff and is forecasting a turnover this year of £1m. The company is BRC-10P accredited at Grade A under the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) global standard for packaging and packaging materials.
DE Product Labels David Edwards said: "We had been thinking about expanding into digital for about a year due to the growing trend for short-run labels and quick deliveries.
"We are planning to go for small-volume, high-quality work. We will not be trying to compete with the big companies.
"I believe we are the only company in Scotland of this size to have this equipment. At the moment we’re getting samples together to send out to customers and we’re very pleased with the quality of the Indigo’s output."
