The Hungerford-based company invested in the Indigo machine, which has a list price of around £900,000 including Digicon converter, to complement its existing flexo printing presses and enable it to offer its customers short-run and cost-effective labelling solutions.
Berkshire Labels managing director Paul Roscoe said: "We were aware there were a lot of opportunities for digital printing and that a lot of work that we were doing could have been done digitally to reduce wastage and enable a faster turnaround. The turnaround time for some jobs has been reduced from 12 hours to just a few hours using the digital press."
The £9m-turnover company has increased capacity by 25% since installing the Indigo.
"We have filled up a single shift and we are about to go on to a double shift," said Roscoe. "We saw 10% growth this year and this year we are targeting 20% by trying to fill the capacity we have created. It’s a tough climate but hopefully we have all the right tools to keep growing."
Berkshire Labels, which has 70 staff, also invested in the Esko AE10 Workflow system in November to try to reduce any bottlenecks on print jobs.
"Our clients require quicker lead times, but if our system is filled up we can’t deliver their jobs instantly. We were aware that the Indigo press would highlight any bottlenecks so we invested in fast-track digital workflow to get jobs through the company quicker and meet our customers' expectations."
