Danwood bags supply deal with Lancs council

Lancashire County Council (LCC) took centre stage at Northprint this week when it finalised a major print contract in an attempt to cut an estimated three-year print bill of around 13m.

Supplier Danwood revealed the single-suppler deal with the council, which it hopes will chop almost £5m off its internal print bill over that period, as the show opened on Tuesday morning.

Under the three-year deal, Danwood will provide a raft of digital printers that will replace both office kit and equipment in the council’s central reprographics department (CRD), which handles high-volume work.

Five Konica Minolta bizhub Pro 1050 production engines, three Konica Minolta bizhub Pro C500 colour engines and one Konica Minolta bizhub Pro 920 mono device will be installed in the CRD, while several networked HP office machines will be installed across the council’s offices. The roll-out of the kit, which will take 18-24 months, started as the deal was signed on Tuesday.

A review had found that the council, the country’s fourth largest, would spend around £12.7m on print
and produce around 185m impressions in the coming three years.

Mike Wood, LCC reprographic adviser, said both Canon and Danwood had been considered for the contract. He said: “Both are very good firms, but Danwood was more able to clearly demonstrate that it could understand our needs and deliver what was ultimately required to fulfil the contract.”

LCC will also continue to spend £2m per year on outsourcing work.
