"The imaging technology used on the Veris delivers superior quality printing," said DuPont Color Communication global business director Paolo Barbieri. "When associated with the Cromalin colour management and media it will offer a unique high-level contract proofing solution."
According to Jim Walker, DuPont Color Communication UK sales manager, the Veris comes as an addition to the firm's current top-of-the-range proofer, the AQ series, rather than a replacement for it.
"We dominate that market already in the UK," he said. "The new system is just a way of providing choice."
Price and positioning will be revealed closer to the launch in June.
DuPont and Creo are also working on a Creo-branded version of DuPont's b2 proofer, although a launch date has yet to be set.
Creo said that the b2's unique features, which include a built-in automated spectrophotometer, made it attractive for premium proofing applications.
Creo will continue to sell its Integris range of drop-on-demand ink-jet proofers, which are based on Epson printers.
DuPont has just released a next generation version of the b Series that adds an eighth ink, a light yellow, which the company said improved consistency and highlight reproduction.
The new version also comes with the automatic spectrophotometer as standard rather than as an option, and a new stock DP20L, which is also said to improve consistency.
