The RIP will drive an Epson 4000 printer to create proofs for its specialist consumer titles New Stitches and Cross Stitch Gallery.
Creative Crafts art department and computer systems manager Jon Longhurst said: "I feel that the results are comparable to more expensive branded equipment. Our decision to move pre-press in-house was based on cost savings."
Creative Crafts sends the proofs with artwork to Barcelona-based web printer Impresiones Grficas 2001.
Longhurst added that he did not expect any further investment in pre-press "unless there are technological advances."
The Odessa Image Technologies kit was sold through SiliconCrag in Nelson, Lancashire.

Faversham-based Creative Crafts has become the first UK publisher to install Odessas RealityProof RIP following a move to bring its pre-press operation in-house.
