Carousel brings repro in-house with 25,000 spend

Carousel Envelopes has brought all of its pre-press work in-house following a 25,000 investment in equipment and a new mezzanine floor at its Leeds-based factory.

The £1.2m-turnover envelope manufacturer and printer has bought an ECRM Mako 2 platesetter, two G5 Apple Macs, an Epson inkjet proofer and a Harlequin RIP.

The company, which is running Agfa LAP-V plates on its new platesetter, has also employed two new members of staff to run the pre-press department.

Sales manager Mick Bedford said: "We were spending between £2,000 and £5,000 a month on plates, proofs and repro so it was a no-brainer bringing the work in-house.

"It was a big outlay but within six months the investment will have paid for itself, as long as sales keep up, but at the minute things are going quite well."

Carousel was founded in 2007. The company employs 10 staff and was recently awarded FSC certification.
