The six-staff business has replaced two existing DesignJet 5500 models with the latest Z6200, as well as investing in a latex HP DesignJet L25500 to boost its productivity.
According to John Laidler, managing director at The Rip, replacing the ageing but functional 5500 models with the 1,118mm-wide Z6200, enables the company to output work at speeds up to 140m2.
He said: "We were looking to replace some of our ageing printers and were already impressed with the quality, performance and durability of the HP Designjet range.
"Recommendations from our supplier on the Z6200 mean that we get the best we possibly can right from the outset."
At the heart of the Z6200, which launched in September, are several new technologies including new printheads, inks and the third generation of its Omas media sensor.
HP have claimed these help combine to produce the throughput of up to 140sqm per hour and saleable output three and a half times faster than rival machines from Epson and Canon at a comparable quality.
The Rip, which started as a photography laboratory in 1988 prior to moving into wide format in 2001, has also taken delivery of a latex HP DesignJet L25500.
Laidler said the addition of the L25500 machine has allowed the company to boost its environmental credentials by using latex ink, which is water based with a polymer that is bonded to the substrate by heat, doesn't need air purification or solvent extraction.
"It was a natural progession," he added.
