Powage Press has gone into liquidation following a successful winding-up order issued on 7 March.
The Milton Keynes-based commercial printer had been struggling to meet its debts with a string of CCJs and a previous winding-up petition against it.Last year Litho Supplies issued a winding-up petition, which was withdrawn following discussions with the firm to put a repayment plan in place.
A new firm called Powage Print, owned by fellow Milton Keynes-based printer Pepberry, a packaging printer and part of the Marwain group, is now trading from the Powage site.
It said it had retained all staff from the previous operation.
But confusion surrounds the status of Powage, which was in fact Royston Recording Systems trading as Powage Press. Pepberry claimed it had bought Powage Press from the receiver last Thursday (29 March), but the Insolvency Service confirmed that Powage was put into compulsory liquidation and couldnt be bought.
Roger Sims, one of Powage Press three directors, is involved with the new firm. The other two, company secretary Michael Kemp and Steven Parker, are not.
Powage Press was one of two UK beta sites for the 74 Karat DI press. As PrintWeek went to press KBA was in discussion with Powage Prints management over the future of the press.
