The Leeds-based business is currently working from 930sqm premises and work on its new 250sqm mezzanine floor will start next week. It is set to take delivery of the Océ Arizona, purchased direct from Canon for £100,000, at the end of June.

The Arizona is replacing an existing Inca Spyder V, which the company is looking to sell on, and will join an EFI Vutek QS2 and a Mimaki JV5 as well as an Esko Kongsberg cutter and a raft of other finishing kit.

“The mezzanine is being built so we can fit the Océ in and to give us more room in the factory to really give us the opportunity to increase our quality and handle different types of jobs that might need a bit more packing and print finishing,” said Colour Display director Rob McLucas.

The business also looked at alternative machines from Fujifilm and Mimaki but found the Canon to be best suited to its requirements and budget.

Formed in 1989, 15-staff Colour Display, part of the Concept Group, started off as a screen printing specialist and added digital to its offering around 10 years ago.

Operating five semi-automatic screen lines and two hand beds, screen still makes up around 60% of the firm’s turnover of just over £1m but digital has continued to grow. The company specialises in retail POS as well as more industrial work on its screen side.
