Chili Publisher, which is the first product from Paeleman’s start-up Chili Publish, was unveiled to the UK market at last month’s MediaPro by distributor Workflowz.
According to Workflowz managing director Alan Dixon, the software has the potential to help printers and print managers win new customers while lowering the production costs of engaging with customers.
"It’s the technology of the moment," said Dixon. "There’s a ‘use case’ for a lot of customers, but whether you’re a buyer or a print service provider, it will empower you to do more with less."
The software package is comprised of the Chili Backoffice DAM module, an Application Programming Interface (API) to allow users to integrate the software with their own workflow, and Chili Editor, an Adobe Flex-based online layout tool.
Chili Editor allows users to create documents online, including everything from business cards, packaging and PoS through to layouts such as flyers and brochures.
The software can import InDesign files or create documents from scratch and can output high-res PDFs or iPad-format output and page turning flashbooks.
Dixon said: "For years, people have told me they want a Moonpig-style interface with greater control and a real-time preview and now we can give it to them.
"We’ve had a lot of interest from local government, because of the huge budget shrinkage they’re facing, allied with the fact they still need to retain control of the documents. Chili Publisher allows them to become their own print manager."
Chili Publisher is priced at £35,000, with a £7,000 annual service fee to cover all upgrades and support.
