The UK's sixth largest building society has taken delivery of its second iGen3 digital press, a 700 digital colour machine and a 4112 mono engine.
The company has also installed the FreeFlow Output Manager from Xerox at its Cheltenham print facility.
Producing around 9m colour pages and 6m mono pages each year, the in-plant is looking to both cut turnaround times and costs by producing certain jobs on a "just-in-time" basis.
According to Martyn Baldwin, head of support services at Chelsea Building Society, a range of booklets and pamphlets can be printed on-demand to help cut time to market.
He added the company was also looking into the transpromotional space with the new machines, which would "eventually lead to incremental revenue opportunities".
The majority of what the Cheltenham print unit produces are colour point-of-sale materials, mortgage statements, posters and brochures.
With two iGen3 machines, the company is now also looking into migrating its litho-printed letterheads and statements onto a single-pass digital print process.
Baldwin said: "Effective communication is crucial for increased customer loyalty and the cross-selling of new products.
"At the same time, like many other businesses in this current economic climate, we have a responsibility to be as efficient and productive as possible."
