Canon has cut back on printed marketing materials following the adoption of an Internet-based personalised document delivery system.


The AudienceOne Personalisation Server is being used to create personalised PDFs, which are delivered online to replace a 36pp printed document.


Canon project manager Chris Tickler said: "The print run would have been about 4,000 but this is set up permanently and can be downloaded at any time. The more downloads we get, the more we save. Plus it logs customer information so we can build a database."


AudienceOne is an Adobe spin-off, and was acquired by Brentford-based Cardiff Software in February. The server combines several PDF templates with a clients personalised data to create a single document.


Clients enter their details and select the information that they require online. Personalised documents can then be sent electronically or digitally printed and sent to customers.


The AudienceOne Personalisation Server costs 19,000 and includes AudienceOne Publisher, which converts documents created in Word, QuarkXPress, and Adobe InDesign.
