Cambridge set to lose 29 jobs as US plan fails

The print division of Cambridge University Press is to make 29 redundancies due largely to ambitious plans for the US Bible market.

Cambridge Printing had set a target of producing 5,000 units per week, which it couldn't meet.

Cambridge Printing is currently in talks with the GPMU over the proposed redundancies and a review of the company's pension contributions.

"Other areas of the business are not faring badly and while we were looking for business in the US Bible market we have lowered our sights," said Cambridge Printing sales and marketing manager Helen Bradbury.

Although pension contributions at the company were being reviewed, Bradbury said that Cambridge Printing's "terms and conditions were generous and will remain generous."
