High Wycombe-based Brier Press has launched a bespoke online order service developed in tandem with PrintPricer.
Customers using the service will fill out details about the job they require, submit it, and then receive an instant quotation. There is no charge, and registration is free.
Brier Press managing director George Harold said: "Customers put in the details about their job, including the numbers of pages, colours, flat and folded size as well as finishing details. They then get a quote instantly." He added that he believed Brier Press to be the first printer in the world to offer this type of instant, bespoke online service.
Harold said that the systems strength lay in the software driving the site. "Weve got a magnificent engine at the back of it developed by PrintPricer." He said that the system was targeted towards the discerning print buyer and that prices would only be a guide and subject to confirmation.
However, Harold said that the Internet was merely a tool for enhanced communication with customers and not for a print bartering system. "There are some printers wholl give any price to get a job but we wont join that race downwards."
PrintPricer business development manager Len Davy said that the software behind the system had taken the company 18-months to develop. He added: "The software is flexible enough to cope with 90% of litho operations. Printers can be their own dotcom, so why go to a dotcom."
