The BPIF announced 100 shortlisted entries across 17 categories on 6 September, welcoming this year’s “overwhelming response” from publishers and printers.
The awards, held in partnership with Oxford Brookes University, book trade magazine The Bookseller, and publishing community BookMachine, were judged by a panel of experts over two days in Oxford.
Anais Bellemans, the BPIF’s head of marketing, said: “We are humbled each year by the amount of support we receive from our members and the industry in entering our awards - especially in incredibly challenging times.
“The book sector is hugely important to BPIF, at the heart of our industry, and it makes me proud to champion the design and production that has gone into the incredible collection of books making it to the shortlist once again.”
Among the shortlisted companies were: Empress Litho, for Best Jacket/Cover design; Thames & Hudson, for Scholarly, Academic and Reference; The Folio Society, for Literature; Pureprint, for Self-Published Books; and Areté Editions, for Fine Binding & Limited Edition.
The winners for each category, and overall Book of the Year, will be revealed on 7 November at the BBD&PA awards ceremony in London.
