Blackmore, hailed for its green credentials by Friends of the Earth, launched a children’s competition to flag up World Environment Day.
Pupils from all schools in the county were invited to draw pictures and write 100 words about the most interesting, low-carbon, way of getting to school.
The UN initiative, on 5 June of every year, aims to stimulate worldwide awareness of environmental issues and this year headlined with ‘C02 Kick the habit!’
Winning schools, chosen next month, receive prizes from Blackmore, such as renewable-energy education kits, certificates and posters.
“Hopefully, the competition will encourage children to think about the environment and the impact it has on our community even more,” said sales director Aubrey Aviss.
Blackmore has been flagged up as being in the top 1% of environmentally friendly printers by the print buyer for Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace.
It holds the ISO 14001 environmental standard award, has reduced landfill waste by over 70%, water usage by 80% and volatile organic compound emissions by 3 tonnes.
Blackmore runs cold-set web and B2 colour printing kit and produces work for local authorities, finance houses and NHS trusts.
Parent company TH Brickell Group also owns Lamport Gilbert in Reading and together the two businesses have a £12m turnover and employ 120 staff.
