The Derby printer will produce 12m tokens a year in a rebrand that includes a change of name to National Book Tokens.
New artwork has been supplied from West London graphics firm LMC Design, which has incorporated a foil strip, watermark and intricate hologram.
This will make it harder to reproduce the notes, said LMC Design managing director Andrew Cole. Book tokens can be higher risk than currency because most people are very familiar with paper money, but less so with tokens.
Craig Padley, sales executive and voucher consultant with BemroseBooth, said the tokens on Arjo Wiggins watermark paper would roll off a Muller Martini A68 10-colour web press.
His firm bid for the job in a tender process. De La Rue used to handle the account.
