BCF picks Covell to head inks

Former Sun Chemical marketing director Paul Covell has been appointed printing ink executive for the British Coatings Federation (BCF).

BCF deputy chief executive Tony Newbould said that Covell, who worked at Sun Chemical from 1992 to 2000, was chosen for his "broad knowledge" of the inks and printing industry.

"He was heavily involved in the BCF during his time at Sun Chemical and he is a respected and well-known figure in the industry," said Newbould.

Covell started his career with Fishburn Printing Ink Company in Watford, becoming UK sales director in 1982.

He played an important role in the company's move to Slinfold following the 1985 takeover by BASF, and moved to Sun Chemical in 1992.

Covell left the industry in 2000 to sail around the world in the BT Global Challenge, and has since spent time lecturing on his experiences. His new role at the BCF will be on a part-time consultancy basis.
