The US-headquartered manufacturer of label and packaging products said the move would involve the creation of a bespoke carbon footprinting tool using verified primary data from its worldwide operations.
Claudia Mariconda, global director of sustainability at Avery Dennison’s Materials Group commented: “As a company, we’ve monitored and assessed the sustainability of our products for the past ten years, and this is another important step forward in our goal of providing the most accurate information to our customers.
“By implementing the Carbon Trust footprinting tool, we facilitate further transparency and offer customers a more trustworthy assessment of our label products’ impacts.”
The tool will provide information on the greenhouse gas and water footprint for a wide range of materials produced by the business, including “selected faces, liners, and adhesives”.
As part of Avery Dennison’s 2030 sustainability goals the business aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 70% compared to its 2015 baseline and will work with its supply chain to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions by 30% against its 2018 baseline.
The group aims to be net zero by 2050.
