What was produced?
An 11.6sqm magnetic noticeboard covering an entire wall in Henry Boot’s Sheffield base consisting of a map highlighting much of Henry Boot’s presence across the country, including in Dronfield, Manchester, Leeds, Derby and Birmingham – with Sheffield at its heart. The map is made up of four 1,075x2,700mm Ferro PP film panels mounted onto a Coala magnetic base layer supplied by Antalis.
What did the job entail?
Sheffield-based digital print specialist ASAP Digital printed the four Ferro panels on a 1.6m-wide Epson SureColor SC-S30600 digital printer using official map vectors for the design.
After a one-day print job, ASAP installed the board by using 620mm self-adhesive strips to attach the Coala base before mounting the Ferro PP film panels.
What challenges were overcome?
When attempting to print the Ferro PP film, ASAP Digital found that its black backing was leading the Epson printer to mistakenly believe no substrate had been loaded. In order to trick the machine into taking the stock, managing director Mark Hutchinson and his team came up with the idea to place white strips over the printer’s sensors. After this, the substrate went through the machine with no trouble.
What was the feedback?
ASAP Digital had already worked on a number of projects for Henry Boot, including tender booklets, and vinyl graphics for a charity project, so the construction company did not have to think much before deciding who would be revamping its office wall.
Strategic business manager Dave Woodhouse said: “We have used ASAP many times for our printing requirements and they always provide high-quality service, and importantly on time.
“The wall map was a testing brief as we really didn’t quite know what we wanted but they worked exceptionally hard, coming up with numerous solutions. The finished article is not only a work of art that brightens up the office but also functional for being able to mark projects with the magnetic function.”
