Amcor closes fire-hit Livingston plant

Packaging giant Amcor Flexibles Europe and Americas has said that its Livingston plant decimated by fire in September will not reopen.

The company has entered into a consultation with the 77 employees at the flexible packaging facility, which produced packaging for the snacks and confectionary market, with the consultation taking place over January.

Vice president for snacks and confectionary Gérard Blatrix said: "Following thorough investigations and reviewing all available options Amcor concluded that it is not viable to reinstate the plant.

"We will make arrangements to permanently transfer customer volumes to other Amcor sites, with the agreement of those customers and where it makes sense to do so.

"We recognise the impact that this decision will have on our co-workers and their families. We will move forward with care and respect for all our co-workers and do what we can to mitigate the impact, including consideration for alternative positions within Amcor."

The fire in September resulted in the total loss of the plant, which had to be demolished by Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Services .
