The order is a coup for MAN Roland, as Potts is currently an all Heidelberg house whose last installations were a six-colour CD-74 and a five-colour SM-74.
Potts said that the B1 investment was driven by client demands and planned growth in its bespoke packaging business. "Roland ticked all the right boxes," said Potts marketing director John Conway.
The installation will coincide with Potts' planned move to a 15,000 sqm premises at the end of 2006. The purpose-built facility has been granted planning permission and will double the size of the firm.
"The purchase of the MAN will enhance our competitive edge in UK B2B, commercial and packaging markets," said managing director Shaun Currie.
Potts also plans to invest in finishing kit to complement the new press.
The 7m-turnover firm employs 105 staff at its North Shields site.
