Alcan chief Edgell in early retirement

Alcan Print Finishers managing director Jon Edgell is taking early retirement and will be replaced by Stuart Moffat, operations director of its five London area sites.

Edgell joined group company Celloglas in 1973 as a management accountant and later became company secretary. He was then appointed financial director in June 1977 and managing director three years ago this month. Last month, he was ranked at number 50 in PrintWeek’s inaugural Power 100. He leaves the firm today (20 September).

Moffat joined Celloglas in 1974 as a sales rep at its Cumbernauld business unit. He later became manager of that factory, then one in Leeds, and went on to occupy human resources and operational roles.

Peter Summers, Alcan’s Eastern regional business manager, replaces Moffat as operations director.

Alcan Print Finishers has also decided to focus on the print designer and specifier market with a new studio handbook.

It has launched a complementary website, www. designerswillnotbeprosecuted.com. Both tools are intended as reference points for designers.

"The whole theme is that they won’t be prosecuted for thinking outside of the box," said director of sales and marketing Mike Favell.

"Rather than launch a new range with our printer, customers we have firstly taken an unusual route to market," he added.

The firm has introduced new films and coatings, including a UV coating that gives a raised finish and tactile feel, said Favell.

Alcan Print Finishers has 21 sites in the UK and sales of £38m.
