Adare to shut down Pillings plant

The Adare Group plans to close its commercial print and direct mail operation Pillings with the loss of 75-80 jobs.

The closure was attributed to low margins and the loss of a large contract earlier this year.

Adare is currently in a 30-day consultation period with staff and their representatives.

Equipment at the site, which is scheduled to close on 28 November, includes two Komori Lithrone sheetfed presses and two webs, a heatset Heidelberg 8pp five-colour plus coater and a Didde VIP 10-colour.

Adare Pillings had a turnover of just under 15m in 2004. It was founded in 1902 and bought by the Adare Group in 1995.

Adare Group wouldn't say whether the closure was the result of a review by financial adviser Lazard.

Lazard was hired in July this year by Adare's majority shareholder Allen, McGuire & Partners to "review the strategic options available".
