Q&A: Asif Choudry, sales and marketing director, Resource

Asif lists his hobbies as “work and running”. One of those is definitely not a hobby and the other one remains highly debateable among a large section of the population, but we’ll let it slide for now.

What we take from this is that he works hard and enjoys what he does. Indeed, he says he already has his dream job. He’s also married and has three daughters aged 18, three and one.

Why did you get into printing?

I fell in to print on a graduate training programme with Pindar/AlphaGraphics in 1995

What would be your dream job?

Easy. I’m already doing it

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Idris Elba – he was a cool detective in Luther (a great suggestion from my colleague Joel Sampson)

What would you most like to print?

My daughters’ wedding invitations (when the big day comes) but only if I can design them too...

What is your favourite TV show?

Mad Men or Suits

Who or what do you hate the most?

Pessimistic sales people (one of life’s contradictions)

Who do you admire most in the industry?

Resource managing director Philip Thompson. He is a visionary and inspires you every day while still being a down to earth guy. He also saw the potential in me and has been a big supporter of me ever since

What is your favourite saying?

‘I love it when a plan comes together’

What is your favourite album?

My personal running playlist, which is an eclectic mix of dance and hi-tempo funk tracks

What is your greatest luxury in life?

Time with my family (most workaholics would say this)

What is the strangest job you’ve had?

Sales. Every day is different with lots of ups and downs. I’m fortunate that my career has seen more ups

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with?

I’ve got to say Mrs Choudry, but also Kenny Dalglish

What’s your greatest fear?

Losing my optimism (I still have my hair)

Who or what makes you laugh?

My daughters

What piece of kit would you like to see invented?

A teleporter so I can get to see more people in real life. Fewer emails, texts and phone calls. You can’t beat doing business over a coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnut…

What was the best business deal that you’ve pulled off?

Making @CommsHero a reality. Running and hosting four events in 2014 for marketing people attended by 250 potential clients and a tweetreach over 500,000. More planned in 2015. Not bad for a printer...

How would you like to be remembered?

As an honest, hard working, professional and friendly chap that always looked on the bright side

Life is…?

A balancing act

What was your childhood obsession?

Red Leicester cheese and Panini football stickers
