The company, which specialises in the design, production and installation of decorated, privacy, safety and solar-control products, needed a bigger print, graphics and production space.
The Océ UV printer is capable of printing fast-drying graphics at over 30sqm/hr in full colour and uses multi-pass print techniques to create one-way graphics.
It increases capacity and throws up the option of printing on to rigid media such as metals, perspex and wood. The new base is a mile from the old 186sqm HQ and almost twice the size.
The machine cost £100,000 and runs alongside two Mimakis, a CJV eco-solvent machine and a UJV 160 UV model. Total investment including relocation was around £750,000.
Managing director Micky Calcott said: “We want to future-proof the company and give us more room for growth. We expect to increase turnover by 10 to 15% in a year or so.
“Océ ticked all the boxes: roll-to-roll is really important to us because we print on to window film and vinyl. But just roll-to-roll wasn't man enough in regards to speed and quality.
“We needed to step up to a flatbed machine. Other kit has flatbed but it's more of an add-on rather than integral. This kit prints up to seven layers. It can also print white ink.”
Calcott added: “The new printer will allow us to print directly onto a huge variety of films and surfaces, widening the range of solutions we offer.
“We can print in near-photographic quality at any size on to almost any surface. High quality results can be achieved quickly, even for tight turnaround times.
“Our range of films include optically clear, frosted film and digital wallpaper. The ability to print on to rigid media means we can provide full-colour print on to whatever surface clients require.”
