SV Two firms collapse as 2010 casualties continue to mount up

Beckenham printer SV Two Digital has gone into liquidation owing more than 1m to creditors, with 12 jobs lost.

The business was one of several printers to close in a bleak yuletide period, which saw a number of other firms fail, including MDA Creative, Eurogloss Print Finishers and Paton Brown.

Greg Palfrey and Stephen Adshead of insolvency practitioner Smith and Williamson were appointed as liquidators to SV Two Digital and connected business RLR Management Consultancy on 5 January 2011.

According to Palfrey, around 100 creditors were owed nearly £900,000 by SV Two Digital, which ceased trading on 30 November 2010, while RLR Management Consultancy owed a further £150,000.

Palfrey said that SV Two Digital directors had tried to find a buyer, but it "did not appear to be an attractive commercial proposition to any new investor", particularly after its litho sister Quantum Print UK closed in June.

"The customer base dwindled, with the knock-on effect on cashflow, and the business had no choice but to cease trading," he said.

"Our job is to realise what assets we can from SV Two Digital, although at this stage it is unlikely that the majority of creditors will see any noteworthy returns."

Business processing management firm RLR Management operated out of the same premises as SV Two Digital, whose employees handled its work. The two businesses shared directors William Fletcher, Duncan Summers, Nicolas Ide and Robert Phillips.

According to Palfrey, the company struggled when a major client brought its work in-house, coupled with the closure of Quantum Print UK and SV Two Digital.

Commercial printer and advertising specialist MDA Creative closed its doors on 2 December and went into administration after losing one of its biggest contracts  at the cost of 29 jobs.

According to the administrator, 55% of MDA’s turnover came from food retailer Nisa-Todays (Nisa Local), but it lost the contract in 2010, causing a "dramatic downward effect on cashflow".

Print finisher Eurogloss Print Finishers also failed to see in the new year, after going into liquidation just before Christmas.

Elsewhere, John Titley and Andrew Poxon of Leonard Curtis were appointed as administrators of Manchester-based print and mail house Paton Brown last month.
