The firm’s managing director Jackie Peddie said that the company, which she founded from her kitchen table more than 20 years ago, would initially begin mailing services to York.
Mail regulator Postcomm granted the full licence, which will allow The Mailing House to gather and deliver mail directly to Royal Mail distribution hubs, last Thursday.
Peddie has named the new division Northern Mail and said that she was likely to add to her current workforce of around 85 later in the year.
She said: “We will do our first streaming on 22 March. We don’t want to rush it out, so we’ll be limiting the first mailing to York and then expand it to Leeds and Preston.”
Peddie added that if initial mailings were successful, she would aim to expand the service nationwide towards the end of the year.
Northern Mail will initially only deliver mail handled by its parent company to the Royal Mail.
