The publisher's Children's Books division won Book of the Year 2008 with Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears. The title also took home the Children's Trade award, while Macmillan de Mexico received the top honour in the Primary Education category for Twist and Shout.
St Ives Clays was the most successful UK printer with two awards in both the Literature and Best Jacket/Cover Design categories, while Beacon Press won Best British Book for The Temple of Flora. CPI's Bookmarque, TJ International, Nottingham-based Prime Group and Hamptons Printing (Bristol) also produced winning titles.
The biggest cheer of the night, however, went to Lincoln University graphic design graduates Nathan Taverner, Arran Rushforth and Rae Shirley for Best Student Book. On winning the award, Taverner told PrintWeek: "I'm thrilled. It hasn't really sunk in yet."
AVA Publishing also celebrated with two winning entries. The Fundamental Series won the Scholarly Academic & Reference Book category, while The Production Manual was best Tertiary Education title.
Former Conservative minister Gyles Brandreth entertained a crowd of publishers, printers and designers at the event, which was organised by BPIF in association with Oxford Brookes University and The Publishers Association and held at London's Marriott Hotel.
Macmillan takes hat-trick at book awards
Macmillan Publishing took home three trophies to be crowned the big winner of last night's British Book Design and Production Awards 2008.
