Canon won't be showing any radically new equipment at Ipex. Instead it is putting business development at the heart of its message with the Essential Business Builder Program the core of both Canon's stand and its customer-centric approach. The most recent bit of kit on the stand will be its latest light production colour printers the imageRunner Advance Pro series led by the 9060 and 9070, 60 and 70ppm machines respectively. Compared to the CLCs they replaced these have more features that put the needs of professional print to the fore. Chief among them are the wider media range and extended inline finishing options. Stocks up to SRA3, and a maximum weight of 300gsm both coated and uncoated can be used.

Star of the Fuji stand will be the B2 inkjet press the Jet Press 720 (see Star Product, p27). Using Fujifilm Dimatix Samba printheads, the handling and registration of a standard B2 offset press; it delivers 1,200dpi with four levels of grey at production speeds of 2,700 B2 sheets an hour. But Fuji hasn't got all its eggs in one basket it will also show a range of Xerox toner-based machines including the 700, 7002 and a higher performance "surprise". With B3 toner nestling alongside B2 inkjet on the same stand Fuji says that this is the ideal place to check for yourself whether B2 is really the future of digital print.

The NexPress continues to evolve with the latest 3600 SE models boasting interesting technology to enhance image quality and consumables life. Kodak continues to extend the applications of its toner technology with tools such as the textured finishes offered by Dimensional Printing.

Centre of attention, will be the bizhub Press C8000, an 80ppm colour machine that the firm claims is the first of a new generation of digital presses. It's just been announced at US digital print show OnDemand and the specifications certainly suggest a heavyweight production machine. Quality is 1,200dpi with eight bits per spot and a new Simitri polymerised toner that is claimed to give lustrous results that look like offset.

French firm MGI has a range of clever industrial digital print products that often offer an attractive alternative to mainstream machines when the application is a little out of the ordinary. At Ipex it will show the Jetcard for the plastic card manufacturing segment. Utilising MGI's inkjet technology, the Jetcard provides an all-inclusive solution that combines productivity for high-volume applications, with cost-effective shorter runs. Also on show will be its Meteor printers for printing onto paper, plastics and envelopes and the JetVarnish B2 digital spot UV coater.

First-time Ipex exhibitor Neryos will launch its 300ppm 1,200dpi colour inkjet page printer aimed at personalisation of transactional and marketing documents. No more details of price and performance are available at the moment, but it has the potential to challenge Riso with those outline specs.

Expect to see the firm's flagship cutsheet monochrome machine the VarioPrint 6320 Ultra, which manages a class-beating 314 A4 or 144 A3 ppm using the firm's unique one-pass duplex technology. For digital book printers the 320x488mm maximum sheet size and accurate front-to-back registration enables the Ultra 6320 to produce 8pp signatures in demy and royal formats. For slower members of the VarioPrint range, Océ offers a monthly speed licence, which enables users to increase productivity, at a price, for a month at a time during busy periods, but without having to invest in additional hardware.

At the show Oki will launch a new machine aimed at the graphic arts and commercial print markets. The ES9410 delivers high-quality oversized A3 output, which the firm expects to be used primarily in the ‘pay-for-print' market and for point-of-sale signage. The ES9410 is compatible with EFI Colourprint XF colour management RIP and EFI Fiery XF Production RIP software to enable proofing as well as production. OKI will also be showing the ES3640a3, the ES3640pro, the ES8460MFP and the ES8430.

Ipex will be the first outing for Ricoh where all its constituent acquisitions appear under the unified Ricoh banner. Although a relative newcomer to the production digital market, following on from the launch of its first colour cutsheet digital press, the Pro C900, comes the powerfully configured light production C720 (see Star Product, above). Developments for the Pro C900 includes the choice of a Creo colour server as well EFI's Fiery. On the monochrome side, the new Pro 1357 will feature native IPDS and Micropress connectivity. Underpinning all the products will be Ricoh's new Business Driver business development programme.

Screen's first B2 inkjet press, the Truepress JetSX, will be the biggest draw on the stand. Based on a simple aim – to build a digital version of the most popular format of press in use today, visitors can see for themselves how Screen and Fuji's interpretations of digital B2 meet their needs, and also mull over whether when moving to digital it is necessary to stick to format and feeding conventions of old, or if continuous-feed or B3 really are better.

Centre of attention will be the new Xerox Color 800/1000 (see Star Product, p36), but that will only be one of many cutsheet machines on display. For higher-volume applications, the iGen will be there and for other sectors of the market products including the DocuColor 8002/7002 and the 700 will showcase colour capabilities alongside the Nuvera monochrome machines. Xerox will continue to promote its solutions based approach highlighting the need for the right application, workflow and print engine along with business development services to maximise profitability.
