Ipex Preview - Digital - Show guide: Continuous-feed

Agfa Graphics
www.agfa.com
Stand 11/CD220
A new version of the 63cm-wide UV-cured Dotrix Modular machine will be launched at the show. The Dotrix Modular LM incorporates a new six-colour ink system, which can reproduce 90% of the Pantone library when used with Apogee ColorTune Spot and ColorTune CMM, and new low-migration Agorix LM ink to make the machine suitable for food packaging applications including flexible packaging. A variable-sized rotary sheeter and stacker enables the machine to produce folding cartons.

Domino Printing Sciences
www.domino-printing.com
Stand 17/D900
Domino will launch its first ever press, the N600, a colour digital label press available in four- or five-colour versions. The firm claims that at up to 75m per minute and a standard speed of 50m per minute it's twice the speed of rival inkjet label machines, yet thanks to the latest greyscale printing technology can deliver impressive 1,200dpi results.

Epson Europe
www.epson-europe.com
Stand 10/C260
After an elephantine gestation period, the company's first press, the Digital Label Press finally comes of age at Ipex. Epson promises flexo quality on standard label stock from a water-based ink.

FFEI
www.ffei.co.uk
Stand 10/D290 and 10/E254
The developer of the Caslon inkjet label printing engine for Nilpeter will be talking about and showing samples from its latest inkjet development – a decorative products press for producing table edges printed to match wood grain. Targeted at a market currently dominated by gravure, the FFEI developed central impression cylinder press lays down dual white plus CMYK.

HP
www.hp.com/go/graphic-arts
Stand 12/AB150
Two of the four areas of HP's Ipex stand, which for the first time will be the biggest at the show, is devoted to continuous-feed digital. Commercial web printing will show Indigo web presses and HP's T300 inkjet high-speed press, while more Indigo continuous-feed machines will be shown producing labels and packaging. The firm is saving up announcements about its new products until the show, but it's fair to expect scaled-down versions of the T300.

Impika
www.impika.com
Stand 11/C200
French firm Impika will unveil its iPress 2400 520mm-wide continuous-feed machine at the show. Based on Panasonic printheads, it runs at a native 1,200dpi resolution at 37m per minute. It can produce 2,400dpi work at the same speed. Impika says that the reel-fed machine can feed into a sheeter, which allows it to produce B2 sheets, where it trumps the dedicated sheetfed B2 inkjets from Fuji and Screen with output speeds of up to 6,000 sheets per hour. A true sheetfed machine is under development and due to launch next year.

InfoPrint Solutions
www.infoprintsolutionscompany.com
Stand 12/D130
InfoPrint will be showing a range of applications, including transpromo using the InfoPrint 5000 colour inkjet machine and the 4100 monochrome laser printer, as part of parent firm Ricoh's exhibit.

Kodak
www.graphics.kodak.com
Stand 09/E20
One of the highlights of Ipex will undoubtedly be Kodak's Prosper 5000XL, its first four-colour machine based on the much-vaunted Stream technology (see Star Product, p31). However, the firm will also talk about its other continuous-feed machines, including its monochrome sibling the 1000 and the Versamark range of machines along with its supporting workflow tools.

Nipson
www.nipson.com
Stand 12/C116
Nispon will show new applications for its continuous-feed machines enabled through developments including fluorescent toner for security printing and printing on ultra-thin 25micron PET films for packaging and labels.

Océ
www.oce.com
Stand 12/B150
Star of the stand will be the JetStream colour inkjet machine, which is suited to a range of transpromo and newspaper applications.

Pitney Bowes
www.pitneybowes.co.uk
Stand 19/C790
Having signed a deal to become HP's partner in the transactional and DM market, Pitney Bowes will show the IntelliJet Printing System – a colour system for high-volume transactional mailers, which combines the firm's Production Intelligence software with HP's T300 colour inkjet web.

Punch Graphix
www.punchgraphix.com
Stand 11/C230
New QA series toner is extending the performance and applications of the Xeikon range of machines in document and packaging applications. The QA-P version gives its 8000 a 13% speed boost to 260 A4ppm or 19.2 linear metres on stocks up to 80gsm. The QA-I industrial toner for packaging and labels is food-approved for non-direct applications and for direct contact with dry goods, and is also 10 times more lightfast than the older toner. These applications also get a boost with the new 3500 press with a wider 508mm web that increases productivity and flexibility compared to the 3300's 330mm width.

Screen
www.screeneurope.com
Stand 10/C290
Screen boasts that with more than 200 units in use globally, the Truepress Jet520 is the most successful single-pass inkjet printer colour printer. It's aiming to keep its lead with two new versions: a higher-quality, albeit lower duty cycle machine, for commercial printers and a monochrome machine, which the firm says provides better quality halftones than toner-based rivals. Screen will be showing substrate flexibility with the commercial colour machine printing onto an inkjet optimised glossy coated stock.

Xerox
www.xerox.com
Stand 7/CD450
Xerox will reveal the next stage of its continuous-feed strategy, including its take on inkjet, as it expands on the technology it first discussed at Drupa. With its flash-fused toner technology, the monochrome 650/1300 and the colour 490/980 it already claims a strong market presence.
