Industrial action to go ahead at Trinity Mirror Oldham

Industrial action short of a strike will go ahead at Trinity Mirror's Oldham plant from next Wednesday (15 February).

Unite members opted to ballot last November over a 1.5% pay increase, which the union said was insufficient compared to other Trinity Mirror facilities.

The vote concluded in January with members voting in favour of both a strike and action short of a strike, including an overtime ban and working to rule. Action will begin at 6am on 15 February and had no fixed time-frame.

A meeting was held with the company last Thursday in order to try and find a last minute solution, but this was unsuccessful. Unite informed Trinity Mirror yesterday (8 February) that it intended to go ahead with the action short of a strike.

Unite regional officer Alison Jones said: "Members were informed on Monday night of the outcome of last week's meeting and voted to continue with action. I am disappointed that we could not make enough progress last Thursday to settle the dispute."

A spokesman for Trinity Mirror said: "We are disappointed that they are pursuing this outmoded form of action, which will do nothing to address the challenges facing the site and is based on the wishes of a minority. Nevertheless, we are confident we will continue to fulfil our customers' expectations."
