Horizon Digital Media signs for Ricoh Pro C901 at Northprint

Horizon Digital Media has diversified its offering after it signed for a Pro C901 graphic arts edition press from Ricoh.

The deal was signed for at Northprint, and will now be the commercial printer’s main machine and replace a Xerox at the company’s Cardiff-based facility.

Kevin Ogden, managing director of 13 staffed Horizon Digital Media, said: "We have quite a few opportunities coming up and we wanted a machine that handles a wide variety of jobs that also has the quality.

"It also has an attractive click rate and enables some cost savings."

The business acquired the press because it has just moved into web2print, and is doing a lot more personalisation work.

"We timed the investment along with the implementation of web2print. We are actively marketing ourselves now, out there promoting our services," he added.

Ogden said he has been mulling the investment for the past two years, and knew that now was the right time to make the purchase.

The company has managed to increase its turnover by 11% to £7.16m during the past year. It purchased the press for an undisclosed sum.

He added: "I need to know that I would get fantastic support from the company after I had made the investment, and that’s just what I got. We will need to lean on this support for a bit."

The company works for large blue-chip companies to produce a range of digital work.

Adrian Stark, commercial print manager at Ricoh, said: "The press offers productivity and colour consistency, backed up with Ricoh's support to its customers."

He added that Northprint has been very positive, and the company has been impressed with the cross section of the UK that has attended.

"The people here have been serious buyers," he added.
