GNM scraps printed G3 supplements

Guardian News & Media (GNM) has continued to reduce its printed footprint, with the annoucement that its printed G3 supplements will be reduced in size and run in the main newspaper from next week.

The Guardian Media, Guardian Education and Guardian Society sections were previously run as pullouts.

However, GNM ran a six-week summer trial with the titles included within the main body of the paper, which received positive feedback from readers and advertisers. All three sections will remain fully operational online.

Alan Rusbridger, editor-in-chief at GNM, said: "Our specialist coverage of media, society and education is widely respected and an important part of our journalism. Bringing this into the heart of the paper has been well received by readers and advertisers, and as a result we've decided to continue with the move.

"At the same time we are developing our web content including creating a comprehensive Cutswatch database of how public sector cuts are being implemented around the UK."

In June this year the company declared that it was a "digital first" publisher, concentrating on its online services over its printed titles. It also announced a week later that it would drop its international editions.
