The West Lothian-based commercial printer says that the new collator, which combines Duplo’s suction-fed DSC-10/20 collator with the DBM-120 stapler-folder, has reduced the time spent folding and cutting by around 50%.
The family-owned Currie’s Print Centre, which was established 36 years ago, has expanded from being a traditional litho printer to a full graphic design, litho and digital print service provider. The company produces a range of work including booklets, short-run magazines and programmes.
Before installing the new collator and staple-folder two months ago, Currie’s was using a small friction collator and booklet maker. Managing director Graeme Currie said: "About 40% of our work these days is produced on the Bizhub and the little friction collator was just too slow and unreliable on glossy stocks; we had to send a lot of booklet-making work out.
Currie’s Print Centre found that it was too expensive to produce booklets online using Bizhub because most of its booklet work is A5 and the click charge is no cheaper for a smaller sheet size.
Currie said that the new collator has enabled the company to bring in house work worth around £5k-£10k that was previously being outsourced.
