Commercially available as of this week, the Duplo 150 Booklet System is additional to the manufacturer’s existing portfolio and comprises the DSC-10/60i, a heavy-duty collator feeding system, with the DBM-150 bookletmaker and trimmer.
Duplo said the DSC-10/60i provides users with the power, reliability and flexibility to handle a wide range of material with consistent results, including heavy stock, laminated or pre-folded, and whether produced on a digital or offset press.
The DBM-150, meanwhile, is a compact integrated system that sets up automatically from job memories to staple, fold and fore-edge trim to create a booklet or flat document.
A new software connection between the two machines enables “a quality, automated, easy-to-use and versatile solution capable of handling automatically a wide variety of booklet formats from smaller-than-CD to A4 portrait finished size without interruption”.
Duplo said the system’s ease-of-use is further enhanced by staple heads which use easy-change cartridges and can be replaced with a loop version to form ring staples suitable for filing.
For when booklets are not required, the collator can feed to the right side and collect sets in a simple jogger or deep pile stacker. This can be used when preparing NCR sets, packs of marketing material, or documents to be coil or perfect bound.
Duplo UK marketing manager Zunaid Rahman told Printweek: “The combination is the perfect upgrade path from previous models. The previous DBM-120 was a hugely popular bookletmaker, but it would only come with suction feeder, friction feeder, stacker or hand feeding.
“Upgrading to the DBM-150, although it brought better quality and upped the speed, it still only came with the previous options. Now the 150 can be connected to our professional DSC-10/60i towers, you have the chance to increase productivity as well as the applications.
“It makes the DBM-150 able to handle a much higher variety of substrates and print from different print engines. Plus, the new system allows for a much easier upgrade path onwards; moving onto the DBM-350 is a much smaller leap if you need higher capacity.”
The 150 Booklet System can produce up to 2,400 booklets per hour.
While pricing for the kit was not disclosed, Duplo said customers could contact the manufacturer or a local Duplo dealer “for pricing configuration info”. Rahman also confirmed there is a cost saving when buying the new system compared with buying the DBM-150 and the DSC-10/60i separately.
Existing users that already operate both machines separately can source the new software connection as a free download from Duplo’s technical help desk, though they will also need to buy a connecting cable, Rahman said.
“However, if a customer did already have a DBM-150 as well as a bigger system with the towers, they would not use the old towers on the smaller bookletmaker and leave the bigger bookletmaker without, they would most likely purchase another tower specifically for the DBM-150.”
