The range, part of which was demonstrated on-stand at last month’s Packaging Innovations event in London, is a collaboration with parent company Graphic Packaging International (GPI).
GPI, which acquired £120m Benson Group earlier this year for £100m, is providing Benson with access to its range of proprietary microwave technology.
“Graphic Packaging is a worldwide leader in enhanced microwave packaging, with a range of solutions that can be customised to meet individual customers’ requirements,” said group marketing director Helene Roberts.
“The microwave cooking solutions now available to Benson Group are products already commercially available in the US and combine a number of market-leading technologies.
“This includes the use of materials that have the ability to focus microwave energy exactly where it’s needed in order to deliver consistent, even heating, steaming or browning and crisping of food.”
The microwave pack product range includes DesignerWare, which combines paperboard and plastic for strong barrier protection, MicroFlex-Q, a flexible packaging film for browning and crisping food products, and Quilt Wave, which is designed to be used with irregularly shaped food products.
Other products in the range include Qwik Crisp, which can be used in various formats including cartons and trays, Focus Inset Carton, a folding carton which provides the capability to brown and crisp food, and MicroRite, which manages the microwave energy during the cooking process and reduces loss of moisture from products.
Roberts said: “Our team is looking forward to discussing the benefits of each of these solutions and how they can help improve the eating quality of products in a convenient format."
Benson Group marketing manager Nikki Clark added: “The reaction at Packaging Innovations was fantastic; food-on-the-move is a really growing area at the moment and it was super to be able to show that level of technology. We’ve already had a lot of interest from customers and retailers.”
Earlier this month Mark Kerridge stepped down as managing director of Benson Group.
