The certification is awarded based on a product's impact on the environment throughout its life cycle – from raw material extraction through to distribution and disposal.
It guarantees the lowest air emissions, highest standards of process water cleaning and waste recovery.

The Ecolabel certification is managed by the European Commission at EU level, while independent and impartial organisations are responsible for implementing the scheme nationally.
