Agfa declares Aquajet star of Fespa and reveals DuPont Artistri ink deal

Agfa closed a successful Fespa by announcing it had formed a partnership with DuPont to use its Artistri ink in the Jeti AquaJet direct to textile printer, which was the centrepiece of the firm's stand.

DuPont’s Artistri technology extends the colour gamut, increases throughput and the lowers ink consumption of the AquaJet Pro inks. Availability will be from the third-quarter of this year, with AquaJet users able to switch to these latest disperse dyes ink.

"AquaJet Pro inks offer staggering colour from direct to substrate with dense blacks and rich colours, all at high speed," said Agfa inkjet vice president Richard Barham. "DuPont’s Artistri technology delivers the quality of traditional calendared fabrics with the speed and flexibility of digital."

Barham said the partnership with DuPont was consistent with the firm’s focus on UV ink technology.

"We’ve always said our focus was on UV," he said. "We’d need a huge R&D team and budget to span all ink technologies, so we’re very happy to work with partners such as DuPont on other technologies."

He added a further advantage of the AquaJet was its integral steaming unit for fixing the ink, which could also be fitted with optional hot knives to slit and seal reels, reducing the need for further post-press processing.

"The AquaJet was the most popular Jeti in terms of sales at Fespa," said Barham.

He added that, as the first chance for European GandiInnovation customers to meet Agfa which bought the company last year, Fespa had been a success.

"Those customers see that we haven’t just bought the company, we’ve brought more to the table: reliability, quality and support. The feedback has been that it’s great to have someone who’ll be there for the long haul."
