California-based Adobe, which has gradually gained ground on and arguably overtaken Quark in recent years, has planned its CS4 launch for 23 September – a month before the start of Graph Expo.
The company began eroding Quark's business in 2003 when it bundled InDesign with Photoshop and Illustrator to create its first Creative Suite package.
Following its acquisition of Macromedia in 2006, Adobe has also added Flash to the package.
However, Quark was the first to offer support for Intel Macs (with QuarkXPress 7.01) and Mac OS X 10.5, and has stolen a march on Adobe with its latest release, QuarkXPress 8, which was launched at Drupa.
Adobe is currently previewing CS4 components Creative Suite Production Premium and Flash Media Server at IBC2008 in Amsterdam, ahead of the software package's official launch.
Adobe announces launch date for CS4
Adobe will unveil the latest version of its cross-media design and publishing software Creative Suite 4 (CS4) this month, in a bid to up the ante in its continuing battle with rival Quark.
