Having just returned from the PrintWeek India Awards in Mumbai, it’s nice to have some further feel-good Awards action with the publication of our shortlist here in the UK. When I was in India I was frequently questioned about the state of the UK printing industry. A précis of my response goes along the lines of: “In a period of structural change ... a big shake-out with many company failures ... some companies still finding things extremely difficult ... BUT some real success stories.” Some of those success stories come from people who are at the top of their game in the big bad world of commercial print, others come from printcos breaking new print ground with fresh business models in very 21st century areas of print. A dichotomy, a curate’s egg [modern usage], call it what you will it’s very definitely not all bad. My thanks to all who entered and congratulations to those shortlisted in this year’s PrintWeek Awards for providing a joy-replenishing immersion in lots of good print stuff.
