Racing, dancing, singing...

After a thrilling end to the F1 season, one could imagine there will be dancing in the streets of Milton Keynes today at Red Bull Racing's Buckinghamshire HQ.

One could also envisage the likelihood of a bit of a boost to print as a result, too. At the very least some sort of 'welcome home champions' banner will be required. I'm also thinking about the potential for a celebratory/commemorative book to be published in time for Christmas - glossy and stuffed with lots of fab pictures. The perfect pressie for the F1 fanatic in the family.

I had a little look in the Red Bull Racing online shop this morning to see what sort of print-based wares were arleady on offer, only to be greeted by a http 500 and then (later) a 404 error - something of a major whoops today of all days.

Turning away from F1, no doubt other ongoing events that are gripping large parts of the nation - such as Strictly and the X Factor - will have some print collateral in the pipeline too. The pre-Christmas finale timescales of both events would seem to point to a requirement for some fast turnaround print production, so hopefully domestic suppliers will be picking up any resulting contracts.

While talking to a book printer the other day he mentioned that his pre-Christmas production schedules already include books about various celebs and music stars who exist mainly in the online/download world. Yet fans crave something physical about their heroes and heroines, a book-shaped gap he is happy to help fill. It's almost a new genre of publishing activity.

This was music to my ears, far more harmonious than anything heard on Saturday's X Factor.
