Brace yourselves. Three weeks and it will be Christmas Eve. Triple-shriek.
There's already a parcel delivery backlog caused by snow-based disruption across the country, so definitely time to get a wiggle on with ordering those print-related pressies.
For unique and unusual gifts the Etsy online marketplace is a treasure-trove of fantastic handmade items. Thanks to Andrew Moss of am:pm for alerting me to the wonderful Bookity store, plenty of potential purchases there for lovers of all things book- and paper-related. Another top tip from Andrew is Present & Correct, for fun stamping sets, and more.
How about a hands-on printing present? Mandy Long at ImageData Group suggested a screen printing set from the London Graphic Centre. Hours of fun, surely, and perhaps a chance to get ahead with production of next year's Christmas cards. Talking of which, Print Club based in London's trendy east is running a season of Christmas card printing workshops (mostly sold out now, I'm afraid), but other workshops running into the New Year are available, as are limited edition prints produced by artists using the facility. Even corporate away days where everyone can bond over a hand frame! If anyone knows of any regional equivalents to Print Club, please let me know.
Lovely letterpress wares including posters and cards can be found at Typoretum and New North Press, or how about some stylish bookplates from Piccolo Press?
Meanwhile, back in the mainstream, I shall be adding these delightful Penguin book cover postcards to my own Christmas list, as they fulfil my love of both items. And anyone stuck for pressie-based inspiration for the luxe lover in their life should look no further than 'the world's foremost purveyor of luxury stationery', our very own Smythson of Bond Street.
Many thanks to all for the suggestions, and happy shopping. Get on with it.
