High point for Highlands printer

It's madness on my part to single out a PrintWeek Award winner for special attention, so naturally that's what I'm about to do.

Rah for all our champions, of course, but a particular rah for little Piccolo Press.

During many years of involvement with the Awards I have found myself riding something of an emotional rollercoaster - joyful for the winners, while filled with anguish at seeing other companies come agonisingly close to the top spot, and fervently hoping that one day I will seem them triumph and carry off the prize.

Such an event occurred last night when Piccolo Press became our Social Stationery Printer of the Year. Piccolo is possibly our most far-flung winner yet. The company is based in Nairn, right up at the pointy end on the Moray Firth near Inverness. Two years ago the firm faced disaster when a flood caused enormous damage to its premises and stock. It is a testament to managing director Tim Honnor and his team that the company has been able to recover from such an awful setback. After being shortlisted in 2010 it was beyond marvellous to see Tim on stage with the trophy last night, courtesy of Piccolo's exquisite engraved stationery printing.

An extra-special feel good story on a night that was filled with them.
