Ah, the morning after the night before. I think we at PrintWeek are responsible for a few fuzzy heads today. The partying certainly went on well into the early hours for a host of attendees at last night's PrintWeek Awards. In fact, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that some people might still be carousing as I type.
I'm hugely delighted for all of our winners, of course. But every year my heart goes out to the companies that come so close to glory but just miss out on top spot. As PrintWeek has been in a similar situation at publishing's equivalent, the PPA Awards, we really do know exactly how you feel.
With this in mind I must give a special mention to The Westdale Press, which carried off Customer Magazine Printer of the Year last night. This web and sheetfed printer has a fantastic reputation among its clients for quality printing, often tackling jobs that involve challenging paper stocks and taxing subject matter. But after 15 years of entering Westdale seemed destined to some sort of perpetual 'ever the bridesmaid' role. Until last night, that is. So a big shout-out and extra special congrats to the Cardiff contingent.
The coming together of so many print people in the same place also provided a valuable opportunity to take the temperature of the industry, and to me the overall vibe in the room seemed really positive. While not pretending that all is rosy, some companies at least are certainly being successful in adapting to the new normal.
