Q I run a website that sells decals for CDJs and I am looking for a new supplier after our old one stopped producing them (he used to print them on a wide-format printer in his garage). The process is streamlined and simple: we provide the printer with the image, stock (Metamark vinyl) and also the jiffy bags to send them out in. All I need is a company to print, laminate, cut and dispatch via Royal Mail within 3 working days of receiving the order. The slipmat diameters range from 72mm all the way up to 210mm, but the most common is 166mm outer, with an inner diameter of 55mm. On average, we need 50 pairs of mats per month.

A Good news, after the term CDJ slipmat initially fell on deaf ears (sorry) and, as result, your question hit a bum note (sorry, again) with everyone I spoke to, I discovered that a CDJ slipmat is the modern equivalent of the rubber turntable slipmats that record players used (the record sat on them). The main difference being that CDJ slipmats are now used on CD mixing desks that DJs use to scratch and mix CDs. Once I got that cleared up, Steve Baker, managing director of London-based Baker Self Adhesive Label Co (www.bakerlabels.co.uk, 020 8523 2174) said he could help. According to Steve, the timescales and run lengths you mention shouldn’t be a problem. However, I struggled to find other companies that could help, so any suggestions of potential suppliers are very welcome.

Q I have a similar question to Romona Harron-Harding’s query last week in Helpline. I am looking to find a Hunkeler user, also situated in the east London area. Do you know of any trade finishers in the region with Hunkeler lines that could deal with us? We are located in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire.

A I’ve checked with Friedheim and the Andrews Finishing recommendation still stands (01753 639887). According to Friedheim sales manager Stuart Bamford, Andrews, which is situated in Iver, Buckinghamshire, covers the whole of the South East and the Hunkeler lines it has are pretty specialist (and therefore, presumably, expensive) so there aren’t any other trade houses in your area as well-equipped as them. As a footnote, if anyone else needs to locate someone with a Hunkeler line in the South East, then make sure you let me know, because next time I’m going to ask for commission from Andrews!
