Although the Goe System offers an expanded pallet of 2,058 spot colours, it is based around a smaller set of 10 colours, compared with the Pantone Matching System’s 12.

The 10 base colours are medium yellow, bright orange, bright red, strong red, pink, medium purple, dark blue, medium blue, bright green and natural black as well as a Pantone clear. All inks are compatible with both UV and aqueous coatings.

The firm does not want the Goe System to be seen as a replacement for the Matching System. Instead, it has been designed to meet the increasing colour requirements of the industry. “The original Pantone Matching System was designed to meet the needs of an industry that was functioning without a precise and reliable way to communicate colour,” says Richard Herbert, president of Pantone.

In order to differentiate the two systems, a new naming system has been created. The Goe System is based around 165 full strength colours and the families of colours that derive from them, and each is named accordingly.

In addition to the extended range of colours, the system also includes the GoeGuide colour selection tool and GoeSticks, a two-volume set of adhesive backed colour chips, which make up part of the Pantone Pallet Playground test area.

A colour specification tool for creating colour pallets has been provided in the form of MyPantone Pallets software. And online resource mypantone.com offers a dedicated community to colour sharing.
