The target market for this product, according to Duplo, is small- to medium-volume offset and digital printers, educational and government departments.
The ASM 500 is said to deliver a professional finish, giving booklets that can be opened flat with no damage to the spine. Due to the flat appearance of the booklets, storage is easy and the booklets stack well, when compared with traditional saddle stitched products. With the ASM 500, it is possible for book cover designs to be printed on the spine, allowing for ease of identification.
The ASM 500 can be operated inline with any Duplo bookletmaking or trimming equipment and, thanks to a heavy-duty build, it can run at the maximum speed of the feeding device. Additionally, it can be operated nearline or offline as a hand-fed standalone unit.
The squareback feature of the ASM 500 can be easily switched off when not required, allowing saddle-stitched, non-squareback booklets to be delivered to the ASM 500 out-
feed tray.
The ASM 500, according to Duplo, has been developed in response to customer demand for a machine that offered the security of stitching with the look and feel of a perfect bound book. Duplo feels that the addition of the ASM 500 to its range offers customers a cost-effective, easy to use way to do this.
