Dalim Software’s Virtual Library (DVL) soft-proofing tool has been designed to make magazine proofing easier, using page-turning technology to compile realistic impressions of jobs, even as pages are being updated.
The software is an optional add-on to Dalim’s Printempo and Mistral tools. Once a magazine has been planned using Mistral, a virtual version is instantly created using DVL.
The software aims to replicate the experience of leafing through a magazine. As a reader scrolls through the pages, they curl and turn faster.
Each page is linked to work being created in Mistral, the firm’s production automation, management and job-tracking system. When a page is completed, approved or changed, it is immediately shown on the virtual magazine via DVL.
As well as helping with soft proofing, the library allows users to link content and embed links, and there is scope for the software to be used to create online editions of magazines and catalogues.
Dalim Software has also teamed up with paper manufacturer UPM to show how the software can be used as a portfolio tool. Through the partnership, UPM will use DVL as a sales tool to present virtual demonstrations of different paper grades to its customers. Jobs will be simulated on a variety of stocks, showing the effects of whiteness, transparency and opacity, in real time and before printing.
DVL has been integrated into Dalim Software’s web-based production tools and is available for both Apple OS X and Microsoft Windows.
