What does the machine do?
The Duetto Bookletmaker is made up of a Duplo System 5000 trimmer-folder-stitcher, a DC-10/60 Pro collator tower and DSF-2000 sheet feeder. It is used for producing saddle-stitched booklets here at Leicester College for both educational and internal print production purposes.
Why did you choose this particular machine?
It provides our students with a great visual on how modern digital bookletmaker technologies work. It is easy to use, creates less waste, occupies a relatively small footprint and produces high-quality booklets.
Did you look at any other similar machines?
No, we always liked the look of the Duplo bookletmaker. We had seen it at print shows in the past, and it was free.
Why did you make the purchase?
We didn’t actually buy it. Duplo has been kind enough to sponsor it to us here at Leicester College. It’s great to see that major players within the industry are still keen to support print education.
What features do you particularly like?
I particularly like the DSF-2000 sheet feeder module, which allows us to saddle-stitch pre-collated printed pages. This ties in extremely well with our Canon and Xerox digital printing machines here at Leicester College
Is there anything that you dislike?
No, it is proving to be a very reliable bit of kit.
Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn't?
I can’t really think of anything major. An extra tower that can be purchased would be useful sometimes. We can only produce 40 page brochures at present unless we manually feed them through the DSF-200 sheet feeder.
How fast is it?
It has a maximum speed of 5,000 books per hour
How reliable is it?
Extremely reliable, we have yet to make a service call.
What’s the quality like?
The quality is high. You can achieve very accurate results.
How easy is it to use?
It’s simple to use. One day’s training is all that’s required.
How much time or money has it saved?
This bookletmaker has potentially saved the college lots of time and money. It offers a quick and high-quality bookletmaking solution.
Has it won you any new work?
It enables us to print booklets to help market Leicester College, so in a way you could say so, yes.
Would you say that it offers value for money?
In our case, of course, as we didn’t pay for it. When comparing the actual cost of the machine, yes, it certainly does offer value for money.
Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
None at all.
What about the pre- and after-sale service?
It’s been fantastic. Neil Barrett, our Duplo engineer, is very approachable and helpful.
Who do you think the machine is right for?
SME print companies with more of a emphasis on digital than litho.
Under what circumstances would you buy another?
If I started my own print company, I would certainly consider purchasing this equipment.

Supplier’s response ?Peter Jolly, UK marketing manager at Duplo UK says: "We are delighted to continue the support we have given Leicester Print College since 2006. It is extremely important to us that we help the future of the print industry with machine donations such as this and schemes like PrintIT! of which we are founder sponsors of. The Duetto System is perfect for the college, as it is a ‘hybrid’ bookletmaker designed for both litho and digital output, so it is flexible for many of their courses. The sheet feeder is great for variable data project work, with a barcode reader to ensure work is secure."
